We’ve built Ribbon to make it easier for product and user research teams to build better products by making it super simple to start user interviews. Two weeks ago, we launched Ribbon on Product Hunt, and it’s been great to see our first cohort of users begin using the platform to talk to their own users!

We’re getting lots of feedback from the community on how we can make it even easier to run quick and smooth user interviews, and since launching we’ve added a few exciting features:

Recruit participants in-context

Finding the right users to talk to is necessary to do good user research. You can now choose when you want to recruit a research participant by triggering the user recruitment pop-up when a user lands on a page or completes an action like clicking a button or submitting a form. To trigger the pop-up when a user completes an action, all you have to do is install the Ribbon.js script on your page and call the ribbon() JavaScript function when you want the pop-up to appear. You can find more details about how to set this up under the “Install Ribbon” page on your dashboard.

Call summaries

Quickly revisit your previous calls. Call recordings coming soon!

You can already decide if you want to collect user details like name, email and consent from participants before they join a video call. You can now access the details for your previous calls, as well as any information you’ve collected, in the call summaries section of your dashboard.

We’re also getting a lot of requests for new functionality that will make it easier to have meaningful conversations with users. Over the next weeks we’re adding a few exciting features to the platform:

Screen sharing:

Being able to talk to your users quickly is powerful, but often you’ll want to see how they interact with your website or one of your prototypes. Being able to see how your users navigate through your website as they usually would is a great way to uncover usability improvements and how users experience your product. To better support usability testing, we’re adding screen sharing support to the platform by the end of November.

Call recordings:

Having to take notes at the same time as you’re conducting a user interview can get in the way of listening to what your user is saying. Over the next weeks, we’re enabling optional recording of video calls, as well as the ability to re-watch these recordings after a call has concluded.

We want to hear from you

That’s it for now. We’re excited to keep improving the platform to make it easier to do good user research. If you have any thoughts on what you’d like to see next, or questions about how to get started with your first user interviews, reach out to us at team@tryribbon.com!

Until next time!
